Might as well do a list of who I've got at the moment. No pics as yet; still working on them and I've only done Charles and Andrew so far. I'll do a proper post later if/when I get around to doing the rest of them.

Umm. Bit of background regarding magic.

Magic in my world has to be taught. It's not innate, and some people are more talented at working it than others, just with any other form of academic field of study.

The Magic Academy in town teaches both magic and science/engineering/etc because the two can be combined and if you are going to combine magic with tech, you need to understand both systems, which is why it's only taught to a small very talented bunch of students and not something everyone can use. It's an experimental science like the other sciences, and the forces it uses are still sort of unknown, though eminent scientists of the time have theorised how they work. Alchemy is also still taught as well.

You see, magic and technology are ... sort of compatible. Sometimes, magic and tech combine and they work exactly the way they're meant to. There are also instances where magic will not work no matter what. Then there are the instances where magic works, but works in a completely unexpected manner. No one really knows why it does this, but scientists and magicians have been experimenting for some years to find out the limits of magic on technology. They haven't quite accepted that the two systems are incompatible, so they persist in trying anything at least once just to see what happens. And sometimes the results are glorious, which keeps them going.

I actually wasn't anticipating it to be quite as prominent as it's become, so I will need to work out the actual system itself and how it might work in more detail than I'd wanted. It's not a style of magic I've written before. I've tended to stick to more elemental/pagan-based types of magic. This system is more archaic, but it fits the world.



OH. And a note on the town divisions. [Provisional unless I get a better idea XD] Basically, after the 1791 riots, the place gets divided in two, and the Dissenters take land for themselves (and control of the canals), while the Loyalists (they weren't called that, but it will suffice - they were loyal to King and Church etc) take their own territory and control of the rail lines. In trying to intervene and fix things, King George III only allows the trains to run to the Loyalists, so to cut out the Dissenters and punish them, but not in an overly obvious way. So you have two sides, with their own armies and territory, at some sort of stand off. Neither wants to give in, and both try and rebuild in an attempt to outdo each other.

CHASER PEEPS
Dissenters
- Andr00 - MC - (b. 1802) fourth son of wealthy industrialist family. Grandfather was magician and scientist and involved in the Lunar Society. Was a great experimental scientist and kept detailed notes about his work, but after the riots in 1791, he made sure he had somewhere secure to keep his books so their knowledge wasn't lost.

- Charles - (b. 1801) son of nobiity (he hasn't decided which yet - ). As far as I can tell, he's inherited his family's estate and his parents have fled their land for elsewhere. He stubbornly stayed behind. His parents were Dissenters, and instead of staying to fight, they left for better fortunes. So Charles comes to be in charge of the Territorial Army his father had commanded, and he uses them to secure the Dissenters' part of town. Charles also does a mean trade in just about everything and uses the canal boats to import anything he wants to sell on/supply the rest, on top of the rations and food supplies he has to maintain so the people he's protecting don't die.

Loyalists
- Chris - (b. 1799) eighth son of the Earl of Aylesford. Still working on him, but it seems to have placated him. For the moment.

- Julian (b. 1800) comes from wealthy devout family.

- Chas (b. 1803) ..Still working on him and where Dom will fit into it all.

Other
- Craig. No idea. All I can see is him running around town, being a little brat, and getting on everyone's nerves as much as he helps whoever wants to pay him and feed him.


SCAVENGER GANG
- Roy was at the Magic Academy until he was 15. He was a very bright student, and left when he didn't think it could teach him anything else. So he left to go live in the forest again and become an eccentric hermit wizard and experimented with everything.

- Bev and Jasper were childhood friends, and went to the Magic Academy together. They graduated and instead of staying to find proper jobs, they left in search of advenure. Nothing was happening in Brum; the place was decaying. Why hang around? They went to seek their fortunes elsewhere. They were okay students, but preferred adventuring than staying in for class.

- Jeff (a.k.a Jalyn, because the boy likes pseudonyms *sighs*) attended the Magic Academy as well and graduated. Did very well. Appears to be supported by some sort of wealthy uncle, though he won't really say how he could afford to attend the Academy. Adept at magic, navigating the canals and the boats, and building things.

- Still working on how they get together. I think perhaps Bev and Jasper meet Jeff along the canals and the prospect of running around as their own gang appealed, so they joined him.

- And Roy? ...Nyeh. Look. It was fine when he wasn't an eccentric hermit wizard. Now I don't know what to do with him. DX



I HAVE NO FEMALE CHARACTERS. SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. :D

ALSO. I DON'T KNOW IF WE'LL GET TO THE WHOLE 'ANDR00 BUILDS A PERFECT HUMAN' THING. THEY WON'T LET ME PLAN IT OUT. HAVE THREATENED ME WITH MUTINY IF I DARE. SO I SHALL JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW THINGS GO WHEN I START WRITING AND HOPE WE GET SOME SEMBLANCE OF A PLOT. D:

ALSO, IT DIDN'T HELP THAT CRAG WANTS TO BE AN ANNOYING BRAT AND RUN AROUND ANNOYING PEOPLE, RATHER THAN BE SOME PERFECT CLONE. HE THINKS IT'LL BE MORE FUN. DX
