Yeah, it works for this story, once again proving my theory that such dark things are not inspired by Admish, but by the Chaser boys.
Yeah, it is scary, it was the one thing keeping him sane, I think. In amongst all the pain and servitude, that was the one thing reminding him he's still himself, the one thing keeping Charles and Charlie separate. I think to him, it would've been like killing Charles if that had happened, he'd be forced to become Charlie forever, and he couldn't bear the thought of that happening, so he scarpered. I don't know if his fear that he'd be killed was actually real, but it was to him. I doubt if Julian would've actually killed him, but Charles was scared enough into believing it was a real threat. That's what it took to trigger his survival instincts, which proves me wrong that he was thoroughly broken, because he clearly wasn't.
Apologies for the long rambly comments, but revisiting this fic again as me pondering motives and such and I'm slowly working out some of the things I wasn't aware of when I wrote it.
